24 Valve 178/208 Camshaft Combo

Addition Information:

This kit upgrades every part of the 24 valve valvetrain . When you combine our best all-around performing camshaft, with valve springs that control the valvetrain to 4500rpm and 80lbs of boost, pushrods that are rated to well over 3,000hp and our 1.45″ tappets that provide more surface area, you have the best cam combo on the market for the 1998.5-2018 dodge Cummins.

If you’re looking for the quickest spool and the widest rpm band of all of our cams, this is it. Initially designed for trucks that work hard and need instant torque in the low rpm range. It was later found to greatly help spool large single turbos, increase fuel economy, lower EGT, maintain power at higher elevations, all while keeping big hp and rpm potential.  It is also 49 state EPA compliant. If you are thinking it is too small for your hp goals, think again. On our engine dyno, a 6.7l with a single s400 it made 1100hp with a stock head, 1250 on a stock head with larger valves, and 1588hp @4500 RPM with a ported head.

Modification Required:

• For it to be “drop in” you will need no more than  .020″piston protrusion and at least .038″ valve face depth with a standard gasket.  If you do not meet the minimum requirements for piston to valve clearance, don’t worry, you can still run an oversize head gasket or cut valve reliefs.

Break in:

To make sure that you have no issues during break-in, follow these few suggestions.

• Disconnect the fuel system and spin the engine with the starter until oil pressure can be read or until oil is coming out of the rocker arms on cylinder#6

• Do not let the starter run for more than 10 seconds at a time

• Once oil pressure has been verified, let the engine start and run until operating temperature is achieved, then shut engine down

• A hot-retorque is very important and will change the valve lash setting, so it is important to set lash last.

• Adjust valves (.010″ intake/.020″ exhaust) then you are cleared to abuse your engine. Enjoy the added airflow

2-3 times a year I get calls from customers that have lash starting to get loose on the last 3 cylinders. This is caused from poor lubrication at the time of initial start-up. In this case the cam literally eats its way through the block away from the force of the tappets. Assembly lube and oil pressure on start-up are a pretty big deal to your cam. Don’t let this happen to you.

Approved oil — required. Use a 15W-40 (or 5W-40 in sub-zero conditions) with adequate zinc, phosphorus, and molybdenum. Thin or low-additive oils don’t provide the shear strength a flat tappet needs. Approved oils:
