12mm extreme duty pushrods for 1998.5–2018 24-valve 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins engines. Review the listed specifications and vehicle fitment to confirm the right match for your valvetrain.
Our 103 lb springs are the 24-valve option listed for builds up to 4,500 RPM. Tool steel retainers are sold separately. For higher-RPM competition use, review the 110 lb springs and their camshaft and tappet requirements.
These 1.45-inch tappets provide a larger contact face than the older 1.1-inch design and clear the 12-valve fuel pump eccentric. Check the engine years listed below and match the tappets to your camshaft; follow your cam’s oil and break-in requirements.
This 178/208 combo brings together the camshaft, heavy-duty pushrods, 103 lb valve springs and tappets for 1998.5–2018 24-valve Cummins engines. The grind is aimed at low-RPM response; installation still requires the clearance checks and break-in procedure below.
A full set of 12 forged bridges for the 24-valve Cummins valvetrain. Confirm compatibility with your engine and rocker-arm setup before ordering, especially when combining aftermarket valvetrain parts.
The 178/208 cast camshaft is intended for towing and low-RPM Cummins applications, with a listed operating range from idle to 4,000 RPM. Check the piston-to-valve clearance requirements for your engine before installation. Review the full cam specifications, break-in instructions and required supporting parts below.
The 24-valve 188/220 combo includes the camshaft, heavy-duty pushrods, 103 lb valve springs and tappets. For a VP44 truck, our application guidance points to the 24-valve 178/208 combo; read the turbo and clearance notes below before choosing.
OEM-style rocker arms for 1998.5–2018 24-valve Cummins engines, with swaged steel tips and DLC-coated trunnions. Review the casting and oiling details below, and confirm compatibility with the rest of your valvetrain.
5.9L Cummins Buyer’s Guide
Choosing the right camshaft and valvetrain components for a 2003–2007 5.9L Cummins depends on how the truck is used, the turbocharger setup, desired RPM range, horsepower goals, and supporting engine modifications. A dependable towing truck requires a different combination than a high-horsepower street or competition build.
Hamilton Cams develops Cummins camshafts and supporting valvetrain parts for improved airflow, turbo response, low-end torque, durability, and reliable engine operation. The correct combination should be selected as a complete system rather than choosing a camshaft without considering valve springs, pushrods, tappets, retainers, and installation requirements.
Towing-oriented 5.9 Cummins camshaft combinations should prioritize usable low-RPM torque, responsive turbo spool-up, controlled exhaust gas temperatures, drivability, and long-term reliability.
Street builds often benefit from a broader operating range that supports stronger airflow and horsepower without sacrificing low-speed response or everyday drivability.
Competition applications may require more aggressive camshaft profiles, upgraded valve springs, stronger pushrods, additional clearance checks, and supporting engine modifications.
A performance camshaft must work with the rest of the valvetrain. The correct supporting parts help maintain valve control, transfer motion accurately, reduce unnecessary wear, and protect the engine throughout its intended operating range.
Hamilton Cams specializes in Cummins valvetrain development. Our technical team helps customers match camshafts and supporting components to their engine, turbocharger, vehicle use, and performance goals rather than treating every build as the same application.
The best camshaft depends on the truck’s intended use, turbocharger, engine modifications, RPM range, and horsepower goals. A towing build typically needs a different profile than a street-performance or competition application.
A properly selected performance camshaft can improve airflow, engine response, turbo spool characteristics, torque delivery, and overall performance. Results depend on the complete engine combination and correct installation.
Valve-spring requirements depend on the camshaft profile, lift, intended RPM range, boost, exhaust pressure, and engine setup. Follow the recommendations provided for the selected camshaft.
A properly matched camshaft can improve airflow and cylinder evacuation, which may help manage exhaust gas temperatures in the correct engine combination. Actual results vary with fueling, turbocharger selection, load, tuning, and supporting modifications.
Installation may require checking piston-to-valve clearance, valve-spring setup, retainer clearance, pushrod length, camshaft timing, gear fitment, and other measurements specific to the engine and selected components.
